New and Recent Graduates (<3 Years)

The first few months in practice can be daunting to say the least.

This workshop is designed to kickstart the process by highlighting areas of importance not covered at university and providing practical tools to build confidence, expertise and the resilience necessary not just to survive but to thrive in practice.

Being a small group workshop, benefits will be matched to individual participant needs but will include ways toward greater confidence, less stress, enhanced competence and more effective Continuing Professional Development.

For graduates with some experience, this workshop provides an opportunity to refine and develop your clinical practise in light of your experiences to date and to use them to plan and develop professional expertise. You will be encouraged to develop an integrated approach that you can use as soon as you get back into practice.

This workshop also includes 30 days post-workshop Email support to help you implement changes and answer any additional questions you may have. This support is completely FREE !

For more details, please telephone 01908 589222 or Email: vetlearning@aol.com

Through our partners, it is also possible to offer the unique Quick start CPD Programme, a six month fully supported programme specifically designed to help new and recent graduates develop clinical expertise, clinical skills and clinical learning within a safe and supportive environment.

Clinical Audit Workshop

Our clients and the RCVS are increasingly expecting practices to have a system of clinical governance in place to provide assurance that high standards of care are being maintained, but the concepts involved are foreign to many practitioners. The RCVS is now requiring evidence of clinical governance for the upper two tiers of its practice standards scheme, and is considering extending it to the Core Standard.

This workshop aims to give a simple explanation of what clinical governance is all about, and how it can be used to improve our clinical effectiveness, and so maximise the benefits to our patients, our clients, and to the practice itself.

More specifically, clinical audit is a tool that is increasingly being used to help improve practice performance. Dr Bradley Viner is the UK’s leading expert on the subject and the workshop is a hands-on means of familiarising practice staff (including nurses and practice managers) with the process and how it can be made to work for them.

For more details, please telephone 01908 589222 or Email: vetlearning@aol.com

Uniquely, through our partners, it is also possible to arrange post-workshop support for those wishing to implement a system of clinical governance within their practice.

Consultation Skills Workshop

Consultation skills are a key clinical skill (Adams 2006). They are taught to a very limited extent in our modern day vet schools, which usually amounts to no more than 1 day in the entire 5-6 year course, whereas in practice veterinary surgeons are spending in excess of 50% of their time consulting. Much of the vet’s clinical and financial performance comes from the ability (or lack of it) to consult, and the stress of complaints most frequently arises from consulting and associated issues of communication.

Skills are needed to deal with changes in client demands and medical advances over time.

These workshops have been designed by Paul Manning who has researched consultation skills, and worked with experienced medical trainer-practitioners.

This event is designed to help practitioners find new and better ways of using consultation skills so they can improve their clinical practice and performance. Improving these skills has been demonstrated to have strong links with performance including improved average transaction values and client satisfaction(Paul Manning, DProf, Middlesex University, 2006).

The day will be useful to any practitioner wishing to consult with renewed insight and energy, conveying skills to colleagues, and will also be useful to anyone interested in doing the RCVS CertAVP.
